Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between oral health literacy and oral health behaviors of adults in Korea. The subjects were 207 adults living in the city of Seoul. Adults, over the age of 18, were selected by convenience sampling and interviewed. There were statistically significant positive correlations between oral health literacy and oral health behaviors (r=0.427, p<.001). It found out that the self-reported oral health status, frequency of dental clinic visits, oral health knowledge score and oral health literacy have effect on oral health behaviors. The explanatory strength of general characteristics and the oral health literacy on oral health behaviors was 34.2%. The findings suggest that efforts to improve oral health behaviors should consider oral health literacy as an important factor. Moreover, the effective intervention and education programs are necessary to enhance adult"s oral health literacy.
